I am a distance runner who has been plagued by on-and-off plantar fasciitis for the past 8-9 years. I originally dealt with the problem by seeing a podiatrist. After over-the-counter orthotics and two cortisone shots, my podiatrist said, “I’ll give you a third shot, but that’s it.” The implication was that I needed to stop running to allow my plantar fasciitis to “heal.” After several months of rest, I resumed running. Ever since the onset of my plantar fasciitis, it would flare-up whenever my mileage got too high. In essence I was trapped by my injury. In the summer of 2009 I returned to running in earnest and once again was beginning to have trouble with my feet. I stumbled upon Dr. Marion right when I was contemplating a return trip to the podiatrist. Dr. Marion told me about something new to me called ART. I was intrigued. A few weeks before this chance encounter I received a complementary massage after running the Chicago Half Marathon that emphasized treatment on my feet. They felt better. I was open to exploring a different approach to my plantar fasciitis. Dr. Marion said what I wanted to hear during our first visit, “I don’t want you to stop running. I want to work on your injuries so you can continue to do what you love to do!” During the months of October, November and December Dr. Marion worked on the plantar fasciitis and referral injuries. Now I am in maintenance mode and visit Dr. Marion on a monthly basis for tune-ups. I love that his approach involved breaking up scar tissue and dealing with the root cause of the injury instead of dealing with the inflammation and masking the pain with a heavy-duty steroid. More than anything, I love that I didn’t have to stop running and lose my level of conditioning to address the problem. I will probably always have plantar fasciitis, but I know that ART is an option that works for me and enables me to keep running pain-free.

I was referred to Dr. Marion by a friend in early April. I liked that he looked out for my best interests in getting rid of these problems and focused on helping me reach those goals as fast as possible. His schedule was always flexible to accommodate my busy schedule and my commute into the city each time I came to his office. Most importantly, he worked with me financially so I could get quality care without spending a fortune. When I came to his office, I had shooting pains/tension headaches from tightness in my neck and upper back, tightness in my rotator cuff and shoulders, and lower back pain from sitting at work all day. Also, I had sharp, unbearable pain in my leg (IT Band) and feet (plantar fasciitis) from running. Through Active Release Techniques to my lower back, shoulder, thigh, and chiropractic adjustments to these areas, he significantly reduced my sharp pain in my IT Band (tissue on the side of each thigh) to a point where I can run without any discomfort. He gave me simple home-care exercises to strengthen my thighs and lower back to prevent the pain from coming back and to allow my adjustments to hold longer. The exercises to improve the posture in my upper body allow me to sit at my desk without pain or tightness. He let me know how I was progressing as treatment went on, and areas that needed to be worked on so I could get better faster. Since I have been under his care, I am able to run without any issues in my legs, feet, and lower back as well as go to work each day without having to deal with frequent headaches or neck soreness. Thanks Dr. Marion!

I met Dr. Marion in early March and he took a different approach to my health. I felt I could relate to him well because he was athletic just like me and had an pro-active method of figuring out what the cause of my problems were. Before coming to his office, I had trouble breathing, chest tightness, neck pain, and lower back stiffness causing reduced mobility in my everyday activities such as sleep, my work schedule and active lifestyle. By him using chiropractic care, home-care exercises, and Active Release Techniques on my muscles and stretching them, I sleep through the night, have better posture, and am able to work and be on my feet without any of the issues I had originally. Also, I have been running more recently and he has been treating my knee for an injury that I had while I was in HS. He encourages me to stay and remain active as he has treated me for all of my injuries. Thank you Dr. Marion.
